Scott Yates graduated from Yale University with honors in psychology and earned his master’s degree from The Columbia University School of Social Work with a concentration in Advanced Clinical Practice. Scott combines a strong therapeutic alliance with practical goal-oriented strategies to help individuals, couples, and family units create meaningful, lasting change. Scott is dedicated to helping clients navigate substance use disorders, process traumatic events, and negotiate anxiety and mood related challenges though compassionate evidence-based care. He is especially interested in the identification and management of technology overuse and/or dependence, including social media and online gaming.
Scott strives to provide a supportive, trusting, and collaborative environment to help clients feel understood, empowered, and equipped with tools to build confidence and resilience in pursuit of their goals. A D.C. resident and community advocate for over 20 years, Scott draws from a diverse professional background to provide a thoughtful and holistic perspective to his clients both in person and virtually. A former E.M.T., three-time Ironman finisher, and animal lover, Scott lives with his wife, two sons, and a growing collection of pets.
